Student workers will be allowed to work 650 hours per year instead of 475 hours.
Do you want to earn some extra money? Hasselt University offers various student jobs within the institution throughout the year, so be sure to register on Jobteaser via your digital student file if you are interested. As a student, you are allowed to work 650 hours per calendar year, which can be spread however you like throughout the year and between different employers. That way, you only pay a minimum amount of social security.
Also international students can work as a job student at UHasselt. Non-EEA students who want to work in Belgium, need to have a valid residence permit mentioning ‘arbeidsmarkt beperkt’. A type C work permit is required from the city hall.
If you need more information about this, you can go to the city hall. During the academic year there is a maximum of 20 working hours per week. During the holidays there is no restriction. International students from EER-countries or Switzerland have the same rights and obligations as Belgian students.
It's not allowed to work before the academic year you are enrolled in, starts.
Jobs for students submitted by companies or organisations are displayed on the notice boards or placed on Jobteaser.
Employment agencies also have student jobs available. You can always contact some employment agencies in Hasselt.
PhD students cannot work as student workers at UHasselt.
PhD students who do not receive a salary or grant may seek a student job externally.
If the PhD student is not registered as a working student and does not receive any allowance from their home country (if they do, it must be checked whether receiving a salary for student work would affect that allowance), then they may work as a student worker.
Specific rules:
PhD students with a doctoral grant from the institution where they are studying can never be employed as student workers.
PhD students who receive a salary cannot work as student workers.
PhD students with an external doctoral grant that is subject to social security (RSZ) contributions cannot be employed as student workers.
